The California NGSS Statewide Implementation: Building Student Sensemaking Through Disciplinary Literacy

This online professional learning experience designed for K-12 academic coaches, administrators, curriculum leads, and teacher leaders to deepen their understanding and implementation of teaching practices to advance student science understanding.


​The online experience is 12 hours in total and is offered with different meeting options during the school year (see below for dates and times). The learning sessions are divided into four science and literacy-specific strands (reading, notebooking, discourse, and argumentation).

SJCOE Support for Virtual & Distance Learning
Teachers' Community of Practice

Do you want to grow and develop your Virtual Learning Toolbox?
We will define, explore, and provide on-going support for virtual learning. The course topics will include an overview of the Essential Skills for Virtual Learning, how to incorporate SEL in the synchronous and asynchronous environments, utilizing tech tools, assessing student learning, engaging learners, reaching all learners, and providing supports for struggling students.

Designing Solutions to Safeguard People From Mosquito-Borne Disease

Calling all middle school teachers!
Join SJCOE STEM Programs and SJC Mosquito & Vector Control District in a  workshop to explore an engineering-based lesson sequence adapted for distance learning.  The NGSS lesson sequence focuses on ecology, biology, behaviors of a mosquitoes, mosquito-borne disease prevention, and integrated pest management.

Upon attending this workshop, you will have access to:
  • The full lesson plan
  • A Hyperdoc to facilitate the lesson in distance learning
  • An option to invite a guest speaker from the San Joaquin County Mosquito & Vector Control District to Zoom in to your classroom​​
