MEANDER

Book your Field Trip

Durham Ferry Home  >>>  Student Programs

MEANDER Field Trips provide a grade specific outdoor education experience for students in grades 3 - 5.  Participants hike along trails in the natural riparian (riverside) ecosystem, and engage in activities connected to NGSS and California's Environmental Principles and Concepts. Students will use their senses and minds to become scientists in their local environment.
Field Trip cost: $300 for a class of no more than 32 students. We can accommodate up to three classes of students at a time.

We believe that connecting MEANDER outdoors explorations to your classroom provides an invaluable opportunity for students to have a deeper understanding of scientific concepts. We are excited to announce that we are collaborating with Teachers College of San Joaquin to promote Incorporation of Environmental Literacy in NGSS Lesson Sequences. Please see requirements below on how to participate in this program.

Requirements:
  1. Schedule a MEANDER Field Trip.
  2. Create and submit a 5E Lesson Plan (See 5E Google Form by grade level or download a pdf).  You will see that some parts have been filled out by us (This activities take place during the MEANDER field trip. To view activities, click on captions below photos).
  3. Submit any supporting materials (student work, photos, phenomena used, evaluations etc.) to kstepping@sjcoe.net  or via intradistrict mail: SJCOE STEM Programs. Attn.: Kristine Stepping
  4. Once you have submitted the lesson plan and supporting materials, you will get an O.K. from the STEM Department that you are clear to purchase your unit. We will notify you on how to proceed with purchasing the unit.
TSCJ requires 15 hours of seat time for one PLC unit (MEANDER Field Trip  (5 hours) is included in this requirement).

1 PLC Unit through Teacher’s College ($95).
